Background music.  How do I turn on and off?

Applies to all KX-TD and KX-T Systems

You can hear background music through the built-in speaker of the telephone.  An external source, such as a radio or CD player must be connected.  The music stops when you use the phone.  On the KX-TD 816 system, the background music (BGM) is the same as the Music On Hold (MOH).  On the larger KX-TD 1232 and KX-TD 500, you may connect separate music sources so callers hear MOH on one source and you hear BGM on the other source.

Press 1 on the dial pad on any multi-line telephone to turn ON or OFF.  Handset must be on the phone and the speakerphone off.

or

Press the softkey below the display to turn ON or OFF if your display phone shows BGM.  Handset must be placed on the phone and speakerphone off.

If you do not have a Music On Hold device connected to your telephone system and you inadvertently turn BGM on,  you may a hear white noise or hiss through your speaker during quiet times.  Simply turn off the BGM as indicated above.
